Friday 1/20/39: Went to see “Trade Winds” with the school. Dad Fulton and Mrs. Rew Fulton chaperoned. Sat with Pamela. She smoked in the ladies room while I watched. Flirted with boys on bus on the way home.
Saturday 1/21/39: Had my hair done in Azusa. Went to Bridges Auditorium in Claremont tonight with the school and heard Jascha Heifetz, famous violinist. Diddy made a perfect fool of herself flirting with ushers and anyone in sight. Sat with Hazel Conley. She’s a swell girl.
Sunday 1/22/39: Was going to Elsinore Military Academy with the school but changed my mind and stayed at La Rew. Saw Tommy Farrell, Hays Busch, etc. at Cal Prep in Covina.
After I came back Trudi and I walked into Azusa and got a cup of coffee, flirted and walked back. It was fun. Study hall was noisier than ever. Stomach ache and think it is from my roommate’s dill pickles.
1/25/39: Exams have been going on for the past week and I’m about dead from studying. Two hardest ones today, Chemistry and English. Lots of kids have been caught smoking but no punishment. Student body decided to quit the habit, which will do no good and makes the reputation of the school bad. Fulton said next person caught would be expelled. Can’t wait until Friday so I can go home and get a new dress and see my dad and go out with George.
Thursday 1/26/39: Sociology exam today. Harder than I thought. Study hall a riot as usual. No one ever studies but are always making dirty cracks. Oh well! Tommy and Gloria had one of their usual rows and Tommy threw a book at Gloria for a change. Tommy stormed out of study hall and is going to smoke for no reason at all and Gloria went to stop her. What a dramatic life we lead here!
