AND AGAIN!
After Grandma Fannie lost Mr. Abraham Cohn, husband number two, she had two serious boyfriends before acquiring two more husbands! The first boyfriend was “Sam the Miracle Man,” who lived at the Veterans Home in Westwood. He was devoted to Fannie and wanted to marry her, but she had no marriage plans because Sam lived on his soldier’s pension. When Fannie sold her beach property she bought a lovely duplex in the Carthay Circle area of Los Angeles.
Sam was outgoing and good company, so she thoroughly enjoyed him. Also, he was handy and came to her duplex almost daily, painting and fixing anything that needed repair. He was always shouting, “I’m Sam the Miracle Man!” He had been
a soldier in the Spanish-American War and survived! He had been wounded and seemed to be a bit shell-shocked, but he was always good-natured and very entertaining.
Several years later, in April 1939, Fannie married the owner of a San Diego furniture store, Benne Myerson. They each thought they were marrying a wealthy person, but that proved false when Mr. Myerson tried to borrow money from my grandma to keep his business going. Fannie, always ready to get out of a bad deal, filed for divorce after two years.
